Maigret is a free, open-source OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) tool that searches for a given username across hundreds of websites and social networks simultaneously. Named after the famous fictional detective, it is designed for investigators, security researchers, and journalists who need to quickly identify online presence and gather publicly available information about a person using only their username.

Unlike simple username checkers, Maigret goes further by collecting and aggregating profile data from each found account — including profile names, bios, locations, profile pictures, and linked accounts — and generating comprehensive HTML or PDF reports. It supports over 3,000 sites across social media, forums, gaming platforms, coding communities, and more.

Maigret is a fork of the Sherlock project with significantly expanded site coverage, improved accuracy, and richer data extraction. It is used legally for due diligence, threat intelligence, and identity verification on authorized targets. It runs as a Python command-line tool and can be installed via pip.

How to Install

1. Ensure Python 3.10+ is installed on your system.
2. Install Maigret via pip: pip install maigret
3. Run a username search: maigret username — Maigret will check the username across all supported sites.
4. Add --html or --pdf flags to generate a formatted report: maigret username --html
5. Use --top-sites 500 to limit the search to the most popular sites for faster results, or omit it to search all 3,000+ sites.
